The Fulmar, an inhabitant of rocky northern shores, occupies a disjunctive
range. The Atlantic Fulmar (F. g. glacialis) breeds to the east including Uyedineniya
Island (83° E) (Pleske 1928), while the Pacific subspecies (L g. rodgersii) breeds on the
islands of the Bering Sea. Migrants of the Atlantic subspecies occur occasionally in some
years in the Kara Sea near the shores of northwestern Taymyr and the Severnaya Zemlya
Archipelago. The Russian Polar Expedition headed by E. Toll observed the species between
September 19 and 24, 1901, further east in the Laptev Sea during the passage from Taymyr
to Bennet Island (Birulya 1907). Bibliography. |
